12 October 2007 - The Rowner Renewal Project Plans

Following yesterday’s successful launch of the £140 million Rowner Renewal Project to the residents and community stakeholders of Rowner, the Partnership wants to reassure residents that plans have not been drawn up.

Although the affected area for redevelopment has been identified, the Project’s appointed architects John Thompson & Partners have just started the process to consult for the master design plan now. This will take up to two months to complete and will be reliant on the help and input of residents and community groups.

A series of public events has been organised throughout October and November and will culminate in a report back to the community at the beginning of December. At these events the residents of Rowner will have the fullest of opportunities to meet with all concerned to shape the future of their estate. Following this, a detailed scheme design for the estate will be produced and put forward for planning consideration to Gosport Borough Council in the first half of 2008.

The timetable for community events is as follows:

11 October Public exhibitions at Nimrod Community Centre, Gosport Town Hall, SureStart, the Rowner Access Point and PHA’s Gosport Office.

24 October Neighbourhood Workshop, St Mary’s Church, Rowner
25 October Neighbourhood Workshop, Rowner Youth Centre

23/4 November ‘Bringing it all Together’ Design Weekend at Nimrod Community Centre

4 December Report Back Presentation

John Butler, Project Director on behalf of the Partnership explained:

“We are talking individually to all affected residents and have public exhibitions of the Project at five locations within Rowner and Gosport. In addition, our architects are engaging with residents and will be visiting schools, residents and community groups to seek their views.

John Thompson & Partners have a strong track record of working with local communities to create development plans which represent a shared vision for the future and encourage a greater sense of local ownership. By working closely with residents they hope to be able to develop proposals which will meet the needs and aspirations of everyone in Rowner.”

“The Partnership hopes that the final plans for the estate will be on public display at the beginning of next year.”
